Vedanta Dance Academy

When dance skilfully combines the art of storytelling, with soulful melody and rhythm, and the agility of movement and expression, then it truly transcends borders and beliefs. That’s been our philosophy at Vedanta Dance Academy (VDA) for over two decades now. It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to our performing arts enterprise, launched by founder and creative director Firuzi Desai in 2002, one that has organically grown to become one of the Valley’s premier dance institutions. Our expertise:By way of introduction, Bharatnatyam is one of the oldest existing classical dance forms in the world. It originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu in southern India over 2,000 years ago. It finds mention in the text ‘Natya Shastra’ by Sage Bharata Muni, a treatise widely believed to be the foundation of the fine arts in India. This dance form continues to be practised around the world and is a living and breathing celebration of grace, elegance, sculptural poses and classical music. And while VDA is primarily a Bharatnatyam dance school, we also incorporate fusion, folk and Bollywood dance – celebrating the fervour and joy of Indian performing arts. #Positive Steps, VDA leverages the power of dance to address pressing societal issues such as mental health and social inequality. Our vision:Above all, we take pride in integration and education that extends beyond the diaspora and Indian community. For 22 years now, we’ve been working actively with performing arts communities and events in the Valley and outside Valley. VDA has successfully conducted workshops with students of various schools and colleges leaving an indelible mark of Indian classical dance. At VDA we continue to prove that dance is not just movement, but a transformative dialogue that transcends boundaries and fosters understanding.
